Professional Supervision — Melbourne & Online

Professional supervision that sharpens your practice — not just ticks a box.

What Is Professional Supervision?

Supervision is where you bring your work — your questions, your stuck moments, your ethical dilemmas — to someone who takes that as seriously as you do. Formally, it's a structured arrangement where a practitioner meets regularly with a qualified supervisor to reflect on their work, develop their professional capacities, and ensure they're providing safe, ethical, effective service to their clients. When it's done well, it's one of the most valuable professional relationships you'll have. It's also a PACFA requirement — but that's not why you should do it.

Who It's For

Professional supervision is for anyone in a helping role who takes their practice seriously:

  • Counsellors and psychotherapists
  • Social workers
  • Psychologists (for professional development)
  • Coaches and facilitators
  • Other helping professionals

Whether you're early career, mid-career, or well-established — supervision should meet you where you are.

My Approach to Supervision

I draw on Proctor's three-function model (formative, normative, restorative), the Seven-Eyed Model (Hawkins & Shohet), and the Page & Wosket cyclical model. My aim is supervision that is:

  • Reflective — creating genuine space to think deeply about your work, your clients, and yourself as a practitioner
  • Challenging — asking the questions that stretch your thinking, not just affirming what you already know
  • Supportive — attending to the emotional toll of this work and your wellbeing as a practitioner
  • Ethical — holding professional standards and client safety at the centre of everything we do

Individual sessions are 60 minutes at $160. Group supervision is available on request.

Is This the Right Fit for You?

Supervision with me may suit you if:

  • You value depth and rigour in your professional development
  • You want space for both professional development and restorative support
  • You're willing to engage reflectively with your practice
  • You want a supervisor who is direct and honest

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is supervision only for counsellors?

No. While supervision is a requirement for PACFA-registered counsellors and psychotherapists, it's valuable for anyone in a helping role — social workers, psychologists, coaches, chaplains, and other professionals who want reflective, structured support for their practice.

  • What's the difference between clinical supervision and professional development?

Professional development typically refers to structured learning — training, workshops, courses. Clinical supervision is an ongoing, reflective relationship focused on your actual practice: your work with clients, your decision-making, your ethical responsibilities, and your own wellbeing. They complement each other, but they're not the same thing.

  • How often should I have supervision?

For PACFA registration, a minimum of one hour per month is required. In practice, many practitioners benefit from fortnightly sessions, especially in early career or when working with complex presentations. We can discuss what frequency works best for your situation.

  • Can supervision count towards PACFA requirements?

Yes. As a PACFA Certified Supervisor, supervision with me meets PACFA's requirements for clinical supervision hours. I can provide documentation for your registration records.

  • Can I do supervision online?

Yes. Supervision is available via telehealth across Australia. Online sessions work well for supervision — the reflective, conversational nature of the work translates effectively to video.
